Are You A Weakling?

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. – 2 Corinthians 12:9

God’s power is made perfect in our weakness.

If this Scripture is true, and we know it is, then God’s power much be radiating with strength in my life.  I am the definition of weakness.  I have been the person who stayed stuck in her comfort zone.  I had been the person who let her anxiety disorder rule her life.  I am the person who everyone calls strong because she packed up two suitcases and moved 700 miles away from her family and friends.  Every day I wonder if I made the right decision.

God has healed me of the anxiety disorder.  I am still in the process of saying yes to the good, scary things and no to the bad, comfortable things.

I know, though, that my God is strong throughout the process of working through the weakness in me.  That is somehow comforting, don’t you think?

Ready To Change?

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.- Lamentations 3:22-23

God’s mercy, His compassions, are new every morning.  If you messed up yesterday, that isn’t the end of God’s compassion for you forever.  No, a fresh supply is ready for you in the morning.  God understands that we aren’t always model Christians.  Sometimes we tell a white lie there.  We struggle with an addiction here.  We give into temptation over there.  We are humans.  God knows that.  God forgives us, but God always want to come beside us and help us change into the people He created us to be.  God’s mercies are not be abused but used to change our lives.

Is God Is Slow?

The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. – 2 Peter 3:9

Many times we think that God is slow in keeping His promises to us.  I have been waiting on promises that God made me that seem to be taking forever.  I thought by now in my life that I would be married, that I would have children, that I would be successful in spreading my message to the masses.  In my opinion, God is being very slow.  These are the times when I have to remind myself that God has a plan and that He knows what He is doing.  It is the time when I have to surrender to His plan.  Any other action might delay the plan or throw it off course.

Everything Changes, Right?

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. – Hebrews 13:8

It doesn’t matter if we mess up,  how our circumstances change, how many bad things happen to us, our Jesus, our Savior, is always the same.  He hasn’t decided to change the rules on us.  He hasn’t refused to forgive us when He has given salvation to all.  No, Jesus never changes.  He is always the same.  Things may change.  We may change, but Jesus will remain the same…always and forever.

Walking Through Flames?

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers,they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. – Isaiah 43:2 (NIV).

In the past month, I have been through what has seemed like the fire and water.

I planned everything when I decided to move to Nevada.  I transferred my job.  I locked down an apartment.  I bought the plane ticket.  I sold, gave away or threw out all but what could fit in my two suitcases.

Only things didn’t work out like I planned.  The apartment fell through at the last moment.  When I got to my new store, it wasn’t as it had been presented to me.

The first week I wanted to go back to Arizona, only I didn’t have the money for the plane ticket.

That was a good thing because it caused me to be resourceful…and I had to rely on my God, who came through every step of the way.

Now a month later, I am glad I didn’t hi-tail it back to Arizona the first paycheck I received.  I came here to heal, and I am healing by doing things totally out of my comfort zone.

It is those times when you feel like you are drowning, when you feel like you are being set on fire, that the real healing is taking place.  It is in those times that you learn who you really are and who you can depend on.

People are going to fail you.  People are going to disappoint you.  People are going to be too busy with their own drama to help.

God will never be too busy to help.  God will never fail or disappoint you.

In those times when you feel like you aren’t going to survive, let God be your compass.  Lean on God and know that He is fighting your battles for you (Exodus 14:14).

What Are Your Fears?

“I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” – Psalm 34:4

A few years ago, fear terrorized my life.

I wouldn’t travel on escalators because I have this memory of being thrown down an escalator when I was little.  I’ve never been able to verify the reality of the incident, but  I would have a panic attack if I had to ride on one.

Over the summer, I went to Vegas, where I traveled on many steep escalators.  Still a little afraid but I did it anyway.

I was afraid of talking to people on the phone and in person several years ago too.  I would have panic attacks if I had to speak…not just in public…at all.

Now I speak to lots of people who come to drop-off and pick-up their prescriptions or who call on the phone.  I am friendly and can have a conversation with anyone.

So many times I sought the Lord during those dark times, asking Him to deliver me of my fears, asking Him to deliver me from the panic attacks…and He did.

Four years ago, the journey I am on now of relocating to another state, of having to trust Him every step of the way, would have been impossible, but here I am.

This experience has taught me how far God has brought me.

Look back at how you were five years ago and how you are now.  Is there a difference?  What has God brought you out of?  What has He delivered your from?

These are indeed things to be thankful to God for today.

Who Is Helping You?

My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. – Psalm 121:2

The next few days are going to be hectic for me.  I am relocating to another state.

I have my plane ticket, but I have a whole lifetime of possessions to downsize.

I am doing it all on my own because I know that if I ask for help with my family and friends, they either can’t help because of their own commitments or they make me feel guilty for asking.

Thank God, my help doesn’t come from them.  My  help comes from the Lord.

He is my Strength, my Wisdom, my Portion, my Protection, my Patience, Everything I Need.

I’ve heard it say that God uses people.  He does use people, but His people and in His timing.

Sometimes God will use strangers to help us before He does our family and friends.

He is our help.  When He helps, He promises to do exceedingly above and beyond anything we can hope, ask or desire (Ephesians 3:20).

When He helps, though, it might seem like He is taking forever.  Almost as if He isn’t working on our behalf at all, but that is when our God is working the most.

God puts things together with exact timing, with the right people.  His plan is always perfect and always what is best for us.

When it seems like His plan  is taking forever, we have two choices: to panic and act like the sky is falling, scrambling to come up with a Plan B, C and D, or we can choose to surrender the situation to Him and trust Him.

That is what I am choosing to do today: to surrender and trust.

What’s Your Story?

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. – Matthew 5:14 (NIV)

You are the light of the world.

Are you spreading your light to the world?  Are you sharing your gifts and talents with this dark place?  Are you speaking your unique message, telling your testimony of what God has done in your life?

Most of us aren’t.  Most of us are too caught-up in our own lives, our own drama, to realize that people are not saved and are not going to Heaven.

We need to be able our Father’s business, doing what God put us on this Earth to do.

We are to share our gifts, our talents, our message of what God has done in our lives.

This how we share the light of who God is and what He has done for us.

It is not about beating people over the head with the Gospel, but it is about presenting our story, what God has done in our lives.

Then others will see the light that God has brought to our lives…and that He can bring to theirs as well.

Who Is For You?

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? – Romans 8:31 (NIV).

Ever had those times in your life when things just didn’t go right? Like you were caught in “whatever-could-go-wrong-did-go-wrong” syndrome?

We’ve all been there.

It is easy to wonder if God is mad at you because things aren’t going your way.

Remember Job in the Bible? He lost his cattle and his children and developed boils (Job 1).

His friends and wife thought he must have done something to offend God (Job 2).

Only God called Job a righteous man (Job 1).

God was not mad at Job. Those things didn’t happen to Job because he upset God in someway.

This Scripture tells us that God is for us.

God is for us.

Even when we have messed up, we are still righteous through the shed blood of Jesus (II Corinthians 5:21).

We aren’t in right standing because of us or our good works. We are only righteous because of what Jesus did on the cross. He is our Savior. He is our Advocate when we have done wrong (I John 2:1).

God doesn’t afflict us when we have sinned. God doesn’t use our circumstances to teach us any thing.

Bad things happen in this world because it is a fallen world. People make bad choices. Sicknesses and accidents happen.

God only wants what is best for us. He has a plan and purpose for our lives that is to prosper us and not to harm us (Jeremiah 29:11).

Every good and perfect gift is from above (James 1:17).

If every good and perfect gift is from above, then we can figure out where all the other gifts come from.

Remember God is a good God. He wants to turn everything around for your good (Romans 8:28).

He is for you, and if He is for you, who can be against you?

If we stand still, we will see God fight on our behalf (Exodus 14:14). The battle, after all, is not ours but His (2 Chronicles 20:15).

What Are You Magnifying?

O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together. – Psalm 34:3 (KJV).

Going through issues in your life?  Have long-standing problems that won’t seem to go away?

Magnify the Lord.

Have a rebellious child?  A cheating spouse?

Magnify the Lord.

Dealing with a long-term illness?  Taking care of a parent or special-needs child?

Magnify the Lord.

In every circumstance, we need to magnify the Lord.

We can focus on all the negatives in our lives, or we can choose to focus on magnifying our God.

When we magnify how great our God is, when we focus on what He has done for us, what He is doing and what His Word promises He will do, our perspective changes.

When we focus on His goodness, His mercy and His grace, our attitude changes, our thinking changes and solutions start to come to us.

Where will you put your focus?  Will you meditate on the bad in the situation and how big your problems are?

Or will you meditate on how big our God is?
